Jason has over 15 years of experience in the banking and the financial services sector where he focused on corporate finance, project finance, leveraged and acquisition finance. He has concluded numerous transactions during his career, with a key focus on growth capital, mergers, acquisitions, management buy-outs, empowerment finance and project finance transactions.

Prior to the founding of First River Capital, Jason was the provincial manager of business development for Absa in the Western Cape region and was responsible for the debt finance, franchise and client acquisition teams. During his tenor at Absa he was also national team leader for the debt and leveraged finance team, where he gained experience in specialised and structured funding solutions focusing the South African business banking market. Jason started his banking career with Standard Bank and has held positions in corporate finance, equity and leveraged finance.

Jason holds a Bachelors of Commerce (Honours) in Management Accounting and is also a qualified Associate Charted Management Accountant (CIMA, UK). He is also registered as a Charted Global Management Account (CGMA), which is a global collaboration between CIMA and the USA-based Certified Public Accountants (CPA).

Jason is past president and chairman of the CIMA Gauteng Branch committee, a position he retained for four years and was also a board member of the CIMA Southern African Regional Council (2006-2010).

Firstrivercapital Brett Hamilton


Brett is a visiting faculty member at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), where he teaches Corporate Finance and Decision Analysis (Managerial Statistics) in the MBA programme – as well as short-term classes for various academic institutions in South Africa and abroad.

Prior to his academic interests, Brett gained extensive management experience through numerous entrepreneurial endeavours in media, FMCG, agriculture and property development. He has managed businesses to success and has held senior management positions in these industries. Brett’s consulting activities range from conducting market research and feasibility studies, developing business plans, capital budgeting exercises, strategy facilitation and development and business valuations.

His research activities focus on scholarly and practice-based problems in strategy, finance and management.

Brett received his Masters of Business Administration degree (MBA cum laude) from the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) and has further completed the Senior Management Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch Business School – Executive Development.
